On x, (formerly known as twitter) a user named Bolanle Olukanni, vented her disappointment when her ex Austrian ambassador father, ambassador Ayo Olukanni was denied visa by Austria embassy
In her first tweet, she said “I just want you guys to know that the Nigeria passport has really been bastardized. My father is a whole retired Ambassador who lived and served in Austria for 3 years. He applied for a schengen visa alongside my mum and the Austrian embassy denied their visas”
More shockingly, followed up with another tweet “Do you realize the lack of diplomacy and courtesy and disregard for a country you have to have to deny a former foreign service officer a visa. A Foreign service officer who served for 30 years and has been to over 30 countries”
Lastly she posted with crying Emojis
“They think he wants to japa to Austria I’m so insulted. Lord”
One would have thought that is the worst visa denial story on earth, until another X user, an american citizen whose wife was denied visa because she has to accompany her husband who is returning for medical treatment, prince somorin, responded
“I’m a tax paying American citizen of 33 years. My wife a Nigerian was denied a visa by the American embassy. All she wanted to do was take me back to the USA for medical treatment since I can’t travel alone.
If she held a British, German, French, etc passport it would be a non issue.
This visa anxiety of a thing needs to be looked into.
Sorry that this injustice happened to your parents”.
The tweet has garnered thousands of engagement and over a million reach. Many comments presumed the denial was caused by the disregard for corrupt Nigerian politicians while some said it is just another visa scam scheme by these foreign embassies swindling Nigerians by charging very high and rejecting majority of the applications.
