Amidst growing calls for the #EndBadGovernanceInNigeria protest, which is scheduled to be held on August 1st by Nigerians, the National Assembly has embarked on their annual recess to evade the growing anger of the people.
On September 17, the parliamentarians are anticipated to reconvene in session. This came about as a result of the legislature passing a few crucial bills.
They had already enacted the minimum wage law and President Bola Tinubu’s request to add N6.2 trillion to the budget for 2024.
Among other things, the 2023 Finance Act amendment was also approved.Godswill Akpabio, the president of the Senate, stated on Tuesday that Tinubu might sign the minimum wage bill before Friday.
“Our goal is for the minimum wage bill to be signed by the President by Friday,” stated Akpabio.
A bill to impose a one-time windfall tax on banks for foreign exchange earnings was also passed by the National Assembly. Nonetheless, this week and next are when a few National Assembly committees are expected to convene.
