A new minimum salary of N70,000 has been authorised by President Bola Tinubu for Nigerian workers, and he has promised to revisit the country’s minimum wage legislation every three years.
This follows a meeting on Thursday at the Presidential Villa in Abuja between the President and the leadership of the Nigeria Labour Congress and the Trade Union Congress.
In a statement on X, Bayo Onanuga, President Bola Tinubu’s Special Advisor on Information and Strategy, verified the development.”
The national minimum wage law will be reviewed every three years, as promised by President Bola Tinubu, who approved a minimum salary of N70,000 for Nigerian workers.”
President Tinubu also pledged to look for measures to help sub-nationals and the private sector pay the minimum wage.”
The decisions were made during the second meeting between the parties in seven days, which took place in Abuja on Thursday, with the leaders of TUC and NLC,” the statement said.
Onanuga went on to say that labour leaders applauded President Tinubu for his “fatherly gesture” and that the President promised to use his executive discretion to settle the unpaid salary arrears to university unions.
