BUZZ CAPITAL has gathered that the first group of the 35,000 police officers stationed to maintain law and order during elections has arrived in Edo State ahead of this Saturday’s governorship contest.
In an effort to guarantee a smooth election, troops and officers from the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, as well as the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, are also present in the state.
Although seventeen political parties fielded candidates for the election, Senator Monday Okpebholo of the All Progressives Congress, Asue Ighodalo of the Peoples Democratic Party, Olumide Akpata of the Labour Party and Oberaifo Udoh of the African Action Congress are the front-runners.
According to Defence Headquarters, the purpose of the soldiers’ deployment was to ensure that voters would be protected throughout the election.
The military would take action to guarantee that the election is free of violence, according to Maj. Gen. Edward Buba, Director of Defence Media Operations, in an interview with the media.
“During elections, troops are required to provide security in order to ensure voter safety and to encourage high voter turnout,” he stated.
Edo’s upcoming election won’t be any different. The military is committed to taking action to make sure that Edo State’s election goes off without a hitch.
