Nursing is a noble profession with global recognition across continents of the World and the roles of Nurses in the health sector cannot be overemphasized. Nurses are the hearts and brains of the health sector in totality because without Nurses performing their roles, healthcare delivery will be unachievable. In some countries that can be referred to as saner climes, Nurses are one of the highest paid and respected professionals. But it is so pathetic and unfortunate that in Nigeria, Nurses are overworked yet underpaid and the most disrespected professionals in this country.
It is not surprising but disappointing to realize that a royal father joined the trend of disrespecting and dragging our noble profession in the mud.
In ancient times, royal stools were sacred, royal fathers were seen as role models with signs of royalty all over them. Kings do not talk carelessly or recklessly, but it is so pathetic that reverse is the case nowadays.
Oluwo wrote in his insensitive press statement that; no doctor will like to be called a Nurse, really?
Nurses are not slaves to doctors as they are two different professions! So, it is an insult for Oluwo to make such comparative analysis. There were students who were weeded out of Nursing schools who later studied Medicine and performed excellently and there are doctors who later studied Nursing after travelling abroad to certain countries where Nurses are paid higher.
Just as he is begging to be respected, our own noble profession deserves and commands respect effortlessly.
In conclusion, we urge the King to desist from dragging our noble profession in the mud just for the sake of looking for moral justification for attachment of more respect to his crown. We also demand an apology from him within 48 hours.
