Press Statement from the Take It Back Movement, North Central Chapter

The Take It Back Movement stands resolute in the face of the recent fuel price hikes and the crippling scarcity that has engulfed our nation. With petrol prices soaring above N1,000 per liter, the burden on the Nigerian populace has reached an unbearable threshold. This latest increase, coupled with the persistent fuel shortages, is not merely an economic issue; it is a direct assault on our fundamental rights as citizens.

The Federal Government’s failure to provide sustainable solutions or alternatives to this crisis has left millions of Nigerians struggling to make ends meet. Transport fares have skyrocketed by as much as 100%, forcing many to walk long distances to work, while market produce prices continue to rise unchecked. This inflationary spiral is not just a statistic; it translates into hunger, despair, and a loss of dignity for our people.

We urge the Federal Government to take immediate action:

  • Reverse the Fuel Price Hike: The government must act decisively to reduce fuel prices to a level that is affordable for all Nigerians. This is not just a request; it is a demand rooted in justice and equity.
  • Ensure Fuel Availability: It is unacceptable that citizens are forced to endure long queues at petrol stations while the government fails to secure a consistent supply of fuel. We call for transparency in fuel distribution and accountability from those responsible for this crisis.
  • Address Transportation Costs: The skyrocketing transport fares must be addressed urgently. The government must work with stakeholders to ensure that transportation remains accessible and affordable for all citizens.

Let it be known: if our voices continue to be ignored, we will take to the streets in peaceful protest. The masses will rise up to demand their fundamental rights—rights that have been eroded by years of neglect and mismanagement. We will not stand idly by while our livelihoods are stripped away.

This movement is not just about fuel prices; it is about reclaiming our dignity and asserting our rights as citizens of this great nation. We stand united with all Nigerians who are fed up with the status quo and are ready to demand change.

We call on every Nigerian—students, workers, traders, and families—to join us in this fight for justice. Together, we can hold our leaders accountable and pave the way for a brighter future for our country.

We will not be silenced! We will not back down! Together, we will take back Nigeria!
