In response to a significant increase in boarding fees at Lagos State Model Senior College, parents of students have banded together in protest, calling for a reversal of the hike.

The announcement of the significant increase in the fee which is from N35,000 to N100,000 per term made the parents argue as seen in a viral video that the hike places an unbearable financial burden on low-income families.

The parents who banded together in protest also asserted that the increase will make it nearly impossible for their children to continue attending these schools, despite the government’s defense of the hike as a means to improve student welfare.

Speaking to reporters at the school gate in Lagos’ Alimosho area, the Parent Forum expressed their dismay over the boarding fee increase from N35,000 to N100,000, asserting that the government’s decision violates an earlier agreement. They emphasized that the government failed to consider the economic status of families and the current economic situation in the country before implementing such a hike, calling for a more inclusive and considerate approach to education policymaking.
